CHRIST OUR SAVIOR CATHOLIC SCHOOL – West Campus
Weekly Parent/Guardian/Student Newsletter
9.27.07
Dear Parents/Guardians/Students:
I have not made mention of my beloved Cubbies since the August 30 newsletter because I was nervous that they were going to fade. Hopefully, their hard work and perseverance will pay off for them in the end. We shall soon see.
Innisbrook orders were due last week. If you still have an order to submit, please turn it into the office as soon as possible.
Tomorrow is school picture day for grades K-8. It is a dress up day. No jeans of any kind are allowed. Please see the Handbook for more details. On dress-up days, students may not wear sweats, sport outfits, gym shoes, T-shirts, tank tops, perfume/cologne, etc. Students may not wear more than two pieces of jewelry. Money/order envelopes went home last week. Please return them tomorrow. No phone calls will be made for envelopes left at home.
Please do not drop children off in the middle of 154th Street. It is very unsafe for everyone involved, even the car behind you that might not see you stop. Please be sure to pull through the west lot in the morning. Also, please be sure to discuss with your children about the importance of walking through the crosswalk before and after school. The crossing guards are there to help monitor traffic so children can pass safely. One crossing guard told me recently that she has seen several dangerous situations recently with children crossing in the middle of a busy afternoon four-lane road.
Progress reports for the first quarter will go home today, Thursday, September 27. Please sign and return them immediately. Thank you.
I want to thank the parents who have helped get their children in line with the uniform code. As I stated at our Parent Night last month, it is very important for children to follow the dress code so the maximum amount of teaching and learning with the least amount of distractions can take place here. You as parents are paying too much money for teachers to spend valuable time dealing with the many distracting elements that can occur when children are not following a dress code. We still have some children out of code in certain areas. School dress shoes are to be one solid color, not multi-colors. This includes a different colored sole, shoe laces, or overly noticeable stitching. There should be no visible logos, emblems, symbols, brand names, etc. Gym shoes should be white. Students may wear the school walking shorts until tomorrow. Students may wear gym shoes with the walking shorts. When students wear pants, they must wear the school dress shoes. In an effort to maintain a uniform policy, we ask your cooperation in this matter. As of this Monday, October 1, all students need to wear the school pants with the proper school shoe. If your child tells you something that does not coincide with what was printed in this newsletter regarding the dress code, please feel free to call the office for clarification.
Check out our brand new website www.christoursaviorcatholicschool.org.
If your child needs to take medication during the day or if they need to use an inhaler, you need to fill out the Medical Information and Emergency Notification Form (07-M111). Copies can be found in the office as well as on our website listed above.
Yearbooks are now on sale in the office for just $15. We have a couple left, so get them while they last.
Dental Forms: the dental forms for Kindergarten, second, and sixth grade are now due. Please see to it that those are turned in immediately. Thank you.
Several of our eighth grade students will participate in the Leadership Day today at Marian Catholic High School. Marques Hayes, Tori Bush, Xavier Kirkham, and Kyela Wilson will attend this special day along with four classmates from the east campus.

CHRIST OUR SAVIOR CATHOLIC SCHOOL
EAST CAMPUS WEEKLY NEWS NOTE
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2007
October is the month of the Rosary. We pray: Queen of the Rosary, Virgin of Fatima we ask you to watch over our homeland and bring back peace to all nations of the world. Amen.
This year is the 90th Anniversary of Our Lady’s appearance to the children of Fatima. Mary’s message was one of peace, something for which our school children pray on a daily basis. On Friday, October 5, the World Apostolate of Fatima is sponsoring a Children’s Day. Our students will be gathering for prayer at 9 A.M. to celebrate the day. The East campus students who are Children of Mary (students who meet each First Saturday of the month for mass and to say the Rosary) and their moderator, Mrs. Antoinette Bonato, will lead grades 3-8 in praying the rosary (The Sorrowful Mysteries). We will also recite the Fatima prayers and a prayer to St. Michael. School families are welcome to join us. Thank you to Mrs. Bonato who graciously donated rosaries to the students of Christ Our Savior School.
Students are bringing home their Progress Reports today. Please review them with your student. Students have four weeks to make any necessary changes before report cards; the end of the quarter is October 26. If you have any questions, please contact the teacher of that class or subject area.
Students in grade PS-7 will take school pictures on tomorrow Friday, September 28. It is a dress-up day for the students. Please refer to the Handbook on our website for the regulations regarding appropriate attire for dress-up days.

SHEDSOMELIGHT
Christ Our Savior Catholic School
It is difficult to believe, but we sent home the First Quarter Progress Reports this past Thursday. Our students are midway through this first quarter and have been working very hard to do their best. The Progress Report informs the students and their parents about what they are currently doing academically in school and allows the students the next four weeks before report cards to look at the study areas that need their attention. Please keep our students in your prayers.

Weekly Parent/Guardian/Student Newsletter

Dear Parents/Guardians/Students:
I normally comment on the state of affairs of some sports team here. However, I’d like to take this opportunity to remind you of a saint, and not the kind from New Orleans. Tomorrow is the feast day of a very important saint, St. Matthew, and not just because it’s my first name. He was a sinner who was called by Jesus to follow him as a disciple, and Matthew heeded the call. Years later, he was martyred for his beliefs.

SHEDSOMELIGHT
Christ Our Savior Catholic School
Everyone likes to be recognized for good works and deeds. We especially enjoy being able to reward students who take positive action in responding to the world around them.
To support students in developing their positive actions, Christ Our Savior School has implemented a character education program named P.O.P., Positive Opportunity Program, for the students this year. The faculty believes that their students’ success depends on how the students deal with life’s joys, sorrows, and lessons. The purpose of the P.O.P. Program is to empower the students with strong, positive character traits to meet life’s challenges and opportunities.
Each quarter a different theme will be taught, explored, and emphasized. Theme exploration will include activities, liturgy tie-ins, and incentives. Teachers have brainstormed ideas, developed activities, and gathered material to use in their classrooms. Themes for each quarter will include manners, respect, citizenship, and responsibility.
Recently, students completed designs for the P.O.P. logo contest. Winners will be announced at an upcoming liturgy and will receive certificates and prizes for their winning logo.
“Manners” is the theme for the first quarter and some of the points that will be emphasized are:
Another special event taking place this year is the evaluation of our school through the Archdiocesan School Improvement Process (SIP) and a visit by a member of the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). The staff has joined a variety of committees to begin the process of evaluating our school based on the Archdiocesan themes “Catholic Identity, Excellence, and Vitality.” Two teams will be selected to visit our school for three days (the end of April and beginning of May) and to verify what we have identified in our committee reports. The ISBE will send someone to work with the Archdiocesan team and evaluate our building complex. We well keep you updated as the SIP continues throughout the year.
As always, we ask that you keep our staff and students in your prayers as you, our supporters, are in ours.
God’s Blessings,
Cindy Rogers
