CHRIST OUR SAVIOR CATHOLIC SCHOOL – West Campus
Weekly Parent/Guardian/Student Newsletter
10.11.07
Dear Parents/Guardians/Students:
Trying to find the silver lining in the Cubs demise last weekend is difficult. But I’m sure I’ll find some assistance from a famous person to lend me a meaningful and timely quote at the end of this newsletter. Go Bears.
The students, faculty, and staff of Christ Our Savior Catholic School wish to extend our deepest sympathy to the family of the west campus first grader Rose Maguire on the loss of her mother, Mary Katherine. In a Christian act of charity, Christ Our Savior will sponsor a special dress down day next Tuesday, October 16 for one dollar. Extra donations are welcome. As we have done in the past, all proceeds will go directly to the Maguire family. Our thoughts and prayers are with Rose and her family during this difficult time.
Please also keep in your prayers the family of one of our graduates, Janelle Barnes, whose father passed away yesterday. Janelle is a freshman at St. Francis de Sales.
Please keep in your prayers the family of fifth grader Mycah Brooks whose uncle recently passed away.
There will be no school next Friday, October 19 due to a professional development day for the teachers.
Our new Positive Opportunity Program is up and running. The following are the winners of the P.O.P. Logo Contest: Grand prize winners—Antonia Roberts (east) and Joi Perkins (west). Runners up from the east campus: Cheyenne Clark, Jaylen Scott. Runners up from the west campus: Jenae Vaughn, and Tori Bush. Congratulations to them all for participating in such an important school-wide program. Grand prize winners won a gift card from Target and runners up received a goody bag. The winning logo is a combination of two logos- one from a junior high student at the east campus and the other from a primary student here at the west campus. In a way, it shows our strength as a unified school as well as our diversity.

Tuition envelopes went home last week. Tuition is due this Monday, October 15.
A letter regarding the November 8 Parent Teacher Conferences is going home today with the oldest and only child. Because this is such an important letter, there will be a label on the top portion with your child’s name on it. Please fill it out and return the letter by next Thursday, October 18. Please note: there will be no Extended Day Program services after school on November 8. There will be EDP in the morning only.
As the weather has shifted dramatically this week, please be sure that the children’s names are written on the school sweaters and sweatshirts. This way, items left behind can be returned to their rightful owners rather than fall into our Lost and Found, which historically overflows with the aforementioned articles. Please also label lunch bags, bookbags, and any other items.
Dental Forms: the dental forms for Kindergarten, second, and sixth grade are now due. Please see to it that those are turned in immediately. Thank you.
Seventh grader Dareon West will be participating in the Walk to Cure Diabetes on Sunday, October 14 to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). He will be walking as a member of Carletta’s Team and hopes to meet his goal of raising $400. Eighteen million Americans are affected by diabetes and JDRF has provided over $900 million dollars toward diabetes research. If you wish to donate, send an envelope to the office clearly marked “Walk to Cure Diabetes” with a check made payable to JDRF. Please mark the envelope properly so unopened envelopes can be sent to Dareon directly. Please do not put any other items in this envelope since we will not be opening them. Donations are tax deductible. You can also donate online at www.jdrf.org and find “Dareon West” or “Carletta’s Team.” Dareon thanks you for your generosity.
If your child needs to take medication during the day or if they need to use an inhaler, you need to fill out the Medical Information and Emergency Notification Form (07-M111). Copies can be found in the office as well as on our website listed above.
