CHRIST OUR SAVIOR CATHOLIC SCHOOL
EAST CAMPUS WEEKLY NEWS NOTE
THURSDAY, JANUARY 31, 2008
We pray: Lord, You call us to another celebration of Lent, and You remind us that You are always waiting for us to come home to You. You treat us tenderly because we are Yours and You love us. Teach us to love each other. Amen.
WINTER STORM FORECAST: We are keeping close watch of the weather forecast for tonight and into tomorrow. Mr. Lungaro and I will consult and try to make a decision by midnight tonight depending upon what we see and what the extended forecast is at that time. If conditions at midnight do not warrant a decision, we will make a decision early in the morning to give you enough time to make arrangements for your child/children. If we close tomorrow due to weather conditions, Mrs. Connie will also leave a message to that effect on the school answering machine. Tomorrow morning, be sure to CHECK THE RADIO AND TV ANNOUNCEMENTS ABOUT SCHOOL CLOSURES. Listen to WGN Radio 720-AM, WBBM Radio 780-AM, CBS Channel 2, NBC Channel 5, ABC Channel 7, FOX 32, WGN-TV Channel 9 and CLTV. You can also try the public website at www.emergencyclosings.com.
Students and staff will attend mass for Ash Wednesday, a Holy Day of Obligation, and receive ashes on Wednesday, February 6 at the 8:10 A.M. liturgy.
Tomorrow we celebrate Elected Officials Day. We are pleased that we will have visits from Mayor Michelle of Calumet City, Mayor DeGraff of South Holland, Mayor Evans of Riverdale, and trustees from the area. The elected officials will visit our students in their classrooms and be able to see the wonderful work they are doing. We appreciate our officials taking time out of their busy schedules to visit us during Catholic Schools Week.
Seventh and eighth graders will attend a play presentation of the Diary of Anne Frank on Thursday, February 7 at Moraine Valley College.
We will attend Stations of the Cross on Friday, February 8 at 2:20 P.M. in church. The sixth graders will lead us in prayer. Please join us.
Parent-Teacher Conferences for the third quarter Progress Report will be held on Thursday, February 21. If you did not receive the sign-up form from your child, please call Mrs. Connie for another one. The sign-up form is to be returned by Thursday, January 31. If a form is not returned from a family, a time will be automatically assigned. The scheduled times will be sent home on Thursday, February 14.
Final Fundraiser: Our final fundraiser, World’s Finest Chocolate, will kick-off today (a glitch due to weather did not allow us to send the info home yesterday). The brochures will include Easter candy to purchase, and, so orders will be delivered before Easter.
Congratulations to Ronnye Beamon (Gr. 8) who was selected to be on the basketball All Tournament First Team. He was selected by all the coaches as one of the top ten players in the tournament from the twelve teams that entered. He received a plaque that highlighted his achievement.
The Knights of Columbus sponsored their Annual Spelling Bee last Sunday. We congratulate our students who participated: Gr.5-Nathan Holley who placed fifth, Gr.6-Gabriella Pierre-Louis, Gr.7-Douglas Roach who placed fourth, and Gr.8-Jorian Robinson who won first place! All participants received a certificate of participation; Jorian also received a $50 Savings Bond and will move into regional competition. What a great job, students!
