CHRIST OUR SAVIOR CATHOLIC SCHOOL – West Campus
Weekly Parent/Guardian/Student Newsletter
2.28.08
Dear Parents/Guardians/Students:
As we reach the midpoint of Lent, I hope that it is a spiritual time for you and your family.
We had well over fifty phone calls on Tuesday asking if we were open due to the snow. Please remember to check the following information sources to find out about school closure.
It is the individual parent’s responsibility to check the following radio and television stations for school closure due to inclement weather: WGN Radio 720 AM, WBBM Radio 780 AM, CBS Channel 2, NBC Channel 5, ABC Channel 7, WGN Channel 9, FOX network Channel 32, and CLTV cable. You can check online at HYPERLINK "http://www.emergencyclosings.com" www.emergencyclosings.com or call (847) 238-1234 and use our phone number as an ID. You can register to have info sent to you by visiting the website.
There will be no school tomorrow, Friday, February 29 due to a faculty inservice.
Today we celebrated our African American History Month Liturgy. We were privileged to have Mrs. Prom, one of our parents who teaches African music and dancing, play the drums for us. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to hear African music here in church.
The Illinois Transportation Reimbursement sign up sheet is now located in the school office for those parents who live 1½ miles or more away from school. You will need to bring the following pieces of information with you to fill out the form: Name of parent/guardian, address, social security number of that same parent/guardian, number of pupils being claimed, and the claim amount (see formula below). The deadline for filling out this form is Friday, May 30, 2007. No exceptions can be made after 5.30.08. To calculate the claim amount for the Reimbursement, take your mileage one way from home to school and multiply it by 4. Then multiply that amount of miles by .485 cents per mile. Multiply this number by the amount of days the child was driven to school. We are in school 176 total days. The following statements are included in my directions from the State:
“The name must match the name printed on your social security card.”
“Reimbursement will not be issued without the social security number.”
“You may claim reimbursement for your child(ren) only.”
Terra Nova testing will begin this Monday, March 3 for grades 1-7. Please try not to schedule any doctor/dentist appointments that will keep your child out of school during testing week. Please be sure to prepare your child for the tests by having him/her:
- get plenty of sleep/rest
- eat a healthy breakfast.
- bring two sharpened #2 pencils with erasers.
- bring a snack if directed by the teacher.
- arrive on time; no child will be admitted to class once testing begins at approximately 8:10 A.M. He/she will be allowed to enter once the class has a break but that missed test will have to be administered at a later date.
This past Tuesday, we sponsored a $1 dress down day to raise money for the Y-Me Cancer Research. Thanks to your generosity, we were able to donate $631 to this worthy cause.
