Dear Parents/Guardians/Students:

Re-registration is going on now. The re-registration fee is $100 per child. Registration is now opened to new families. Please remember that the preschool is open to three and four year olds at the east campus only. Please be sure to submit your forms and registration fee soon.

Spring pictures were sent home two weeks ago. Please remember to remit the payment for them or return the pictures if you are not purchasing them by tomorrow, Friday, May 30. Thank you.

Last night’s Awards Ceremony would not have been possible without the efforts of many people: Mrs. Johnson and her daughter Kelly, Mrs. Stuckey, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Gardner and her sons JaWan and Deonte, Ms. Berry, Mrs. Evans, Ms. Sharpe, Mrs. Woods, Coach Brooks, T.J., Siam, Alex Morris and Fr. Cabala. The planning and execution of such an event is a massive task and the evening could not have been more wonderful. I, along with the faculty, staff, parents, and graduates, thank you for your time, energy, and effort.

The west campus Field Day will take place this Wednesday, June 4 from 9:30 – 2:00 here on school grounds. Please be sure to bring a sack lunch if you did not order an FSP box lunch. Students should wear their gym uniforms and gym shoes and may bring water bottles as well. Please see the flyer going home today.

As part of our continued outreach and participation in charitable events, we will have a $1.00 Dress Down Day on Tuesday, June 3. The money collected will be donated to the American Cancer Society “Relay for Life” of the Calumet area to be held at T.F. North on June 21-22. We congratulate our parents who are participating in this relay.

The last day of school is Thursday, June 5. We will dismiss at 10:30 A.M. There will be no Extended Day services after the students dismiss. Please make appropriate arrangements for your child after school on this day, whether carpooling, walking, or otherwise. Thank you.

Important Financial Notes:
Page 21 of the Parent Handbook states “all final late payments, those made after May 15, must be made in cash, money order, or certified check. The final report card or school records will be withheld until the total balance is paid.” For this year only, as a courtesy, we will extend that date to Friday, May 16. “All bills and fees including fundraising obligations not paid my May 16 will be considered late. A late fee of 10% will be assessed between May 16 and June 1 for any unpaid balance. After June 1, a 20% late fee will be assessed on any unpaid balance. The final report card and school records will be withheld until the total balance is paid.
No money will be collected on the last day of school.” If you have a child graduating, all tuition, fees, and graduation expenses must be paid by May 15; caps and gowns will be withheld until accounts are settled.

Eighth Grade News:
As you make graduation plans, if you have any extra graduation tickets, please submit them to the office for redistribution to parents who are in need of an extra ticket or two. They will be very grateful. Thank you.

Community News:
The Knights of Columbus Genoa Council #1659 is presently sponsoring their yearly Baby Shower.  Please drop all diapers/formula/bottles/pacifiers/clothing/furniture/money in the crib in school lobby. All proceeds will go directly to Casa Catalina, Basic Needs Center, Holy Cross I.H.M. and Catholic Charities. These pro-life organizations help unwed mothers.
The Junior Girl Scout Troop #455 is sponsoring a “Stock the Shelves” Food and Toy Drive until tomorrow to benefit the new Ronald McDonald House near the University of Chicago. Boxes are located in the lobby.

There will be a Catholic Charities’ Health Fair this Saturday, May 31 from 8:30 to 11:30 A.M. at Sweeney Hall (St. Anne Church) in Hazel Crest, located at 16801 Dixie Highway. There will be free health related services, such as back-to-school physical exams, adult physicals, immunizations (bring your shot records), health screenings, vision screening, dental exams, and more. This position reports to the Executive Pastor and the principal and is supported by existing clerical staff and the availability of a consultant and mentor. The successful candidate should possess the following skills and qualifications: -excellent organizational capacity -superb communication skills, both verbal and written –ability to work well with others (staff, families, students, donors, and volunteers) –comfort with database management and basic software such as Excel, Access, Word, Powerpoint –willingness and confidence in pursuing donations, volunteer commitments, etc. and working independently –Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience.

Kindergarten Graduation will take place tonight at 7 P.M. at the East campus gym.

Eighth Grade Graduation will be celebrated on Friday, May 30 at Our Lady of Knock Church at 7 P.M. Fr. Patrick Lyons will be the main celebrant. Graduates are to gather in the hall across from the church by 6:30 P.M. (Only graduates will be allowed in the hall-Parents, other family members, etc. should go directly to church).

Important information about final payments: Pg. 21 of the Parent-Student Handbook states: “All final late payments, those after May 15th, must be made in cash, by money order or by certified check. The final report card or school records will be withheld until the total balance is paid.”
“All bills and fees including fundraising obligations not paid by May 16th will be considered late. A late fee of 10% will be assessed between May 16th and June 1st for any unpaid balance. Don’t know what to do with those old but still usable shoes? Jenna Santacaterina and Student Council are sponsoring a SHARE YOUR SOLES SHOE DRIVE. Mayor Michelle of Calumet City has offered to pay shipping expenses. Volunteers will launder washable shoe. All types of shoes are needed including cloth, vinyl and leather-boots, sandals, any type of shoes. The SHOE DRIVE will take place through May 19. Please bring your shoe donations to either campus.

Re-registration is going on now. The re-registration fee is $100 per child. Registration is now opened to new families. Please remember that the preschool is open to three and four year olds at the east campus only. Please be sure to submit your forms and registration fee soon.

Please be sure to note that the Spring Music Concert/Band Concert will take place this Tuesday, May 20 for grades Kindergarten, 2, 4, 6, and 8 at 7:00 P.M. All are invited to attend this lovely event.
Special Note: Mr. Pat Mooney, our band director, recently had surgery. His recovery has been slower than expected. Therefore, band class is cancelled until further notice and the band will not perform at the Spring Concert. Please keep Mr. Mooney in your prayers.

Spring pictures were sent home this past Tuesday. Please remember to remit the payment for them or return the pictures if you are not purchasing them by Friday, May 23.

The Illinois Transportation Reimbursement sign up sheet is now located in the school office. The deadline for filling out this form is Friday, May 30, 2007. 

Mrs. Karen Brodzik, our Reading Specialist, has been appointed to the Administrative Team as the full-time Assistant Principal for the 2008-2009 school year. She will also continue her duties as Reading Specialist and chairperson for our Intervention Team.

Important Financial Notes:
Page 21 of the Parent Handbook states “all final late payments, those made after May 15, must be made in cash, money order, or certified check. The final report card or school records will be withheld until the total balance is paid.” For this year only, as a courtesy, we will extend that date to Friday, May 16. “All bills and fees including fundraising obligations not paid my May 16 will be considered late. A late fee of 10% will be assessed between May 16 and June 1 for any unpaid balance. After June 1, a 20% late fee will be assessed on any unpaid balance. The final report card and school records will be withheld until the total balance is paid. No money will be collected on the last day of school.” If you have a child graduating, all tuition payments, fees, and graduation expenses must be paid by May 15; caps and gowns will be withheld until accounts are settled.

For families using EDP: As we approach the last three weeks of school, a weekly billing for the Extended Day Program will be prepared and sent home to you. The purpose of this extra billing is to assist families in paying for charges incurred during these last weeks of school. Payments should be placed in a plain white envelope labeled with your name and “EDP Payment” on the front. Thank you.

Community News:
The Knights of Columbus Genoa Council #1659 is presently sponsoring their yearly Baby Shower.  Please drop all diapers/formula/bottles/pacifiers/clothing/furniture/money in the crib in school lobby. All proceeds will go directly to Casa Catalina, Basic Needs Center, Holy Cross I.H.M. and Catholic Charities. These pro-life organizations help unwed mothers.

Don’t know what to do with those old but still usable shoes? The Student Council is concluding their Share Your Soles Shoe Drive this Monday, May 19. Volunteers will launder washable shoes. All types of shoes are needed including cloth, vinyl, and leather boots, sandals, and any type of shoe. There will be a box in the lobby to drop your shoes until this Monday.

There will be a Catholic Charities’ Health Fair on Saturday, May 31 from 8:30 to 11:30 A.M. at Sweeney Hall (St. Anne Church) in Hazel Crest, located at 16801 Dixie Highway. There will be free health related services, such as back-to-school physical exams, adult physicals, immunizations (bring your shot records), health screenings, vision screening, dental exams, and more. May Crowning for the East campus was celebrated on Wednesday, May 7 in church. The Children of Mary and the second graders lead the procession; Jenna Santacaterina crowned Mary accompanied by her court-Alyssa Neff, Anastasia Ahern, Magdalena Ahearn, and Karina Garcia; eighth graders acted as honor guard. Every morning during the month of May we pray the rosary. The West campus will celebrate May Crowning later this month.

Eighth grade students from both campuses received their first ribbons on Thursday, May 8 at a special Ribbons’ Mass at 10:30 A.M. at St. Andrew Parish. The Mass was followed by a breakfast in the Christ Our Savior East campus gym for the eighth graders. We congratulate them on their first step towards graduation. Please pray for our eighth grade students as they prepare for graduation on May 30.

Congratulations to the following students who were winners in the Patriot’s Pen Essay Contest sponsored by the VFW Post 8141: 1st Place-Jenna Santacaterina; 2nd Place-Anthony Ziobro; 3rd Place-Antonia Roberts. These students were awarded their prizes on Monday, April 28 at the Post.
