CHRIST OUR SAVIOR CATHOLIC SCHOOL – West Campus
Weekly Parent/Guardian/Student Newsletter
6.5.08

Dear Parents/Guardians/Students:

This final principal bulletin of the year will contain many notes of thanks to people who have helped Christ Our Savior run smoothly and effectively through the years.

I want to take this opportunity to thank the people who work diligently and tirelessly on behalf of your children at this school – the teachers. As in the spiritual hymn, “We are Called,” the teachers act with justice, love tenderly, serve one another, and walk humbly with God. I thank them on behalf of myself and your children for their countless hours, days, and years devoted to helping children learn.

I want to thank the administrative team: Ms. Cindy Rogers, my fellow principal at the east campus; Ms. Gerry Thomas, the former executive principal; Father Tom Cabala, the former executive pastor; and Father Pat Lyons, the current executive pastor. I appreciate their guidance, leadership, collaborative attitude, and friendship through the years.

I would like to thank the many parents through the years who have helped contribute to the overall success of Christ Our Savior Catholic School. Whether you volunteered to help with a special event, chaperone a field trip, or lent a helping hand when needed, your generosity is appreciated.

The secretary of the west campus Mrs. Shulz needs to be recognized for helping me with keeping all things administrative running efficiently and effortlessly. Thank you.

There are many other people who need to be recognized for their tremendous efforts to make Christ Our Savior the wonderful school that it is today: Mrs. Jamrozy, the business manager for her upbeat and industrious attitude. For the teacher aides, extended day workers, hot lunch providers, and maintenance workers for supporting the school wonderfully in their capacity. It can’t work unless it’s a team effort.

The priests of the founding parishes, their secretaries, and the east campus secretary are all deserving of recognition for helping Christ Our Savior operate spiritually, administratively, as well as financially.

I want to thank the newly formed Board of Specified Jurisdiction for their time and energy and wish all of them the best of luck as they continue to work on behalf of Christ Our Savior.

I want to take this opportunity to thank some parent volunteers: Mr. Rivera for volunteering every single day this year in the lunchroom and at recess. I want to thank all of the parents who are Athletic Board members or who coach a sport or help make those extracurricular activities possible for the children. I thank Mr. and Mrs. Palmer for volunteering in the lunchroom as well. The children, faculty, and staff appreciate your efforts and hope you come back next year and volunteer your time and talents.

Now onto other important items:
Last week’s Eighth Grade Awards Ceremony was a tremendous success. One of the parent volunteers, Mrs. Evans, accidentally left her black leather jacket overnight and it is now missing. If anyone knows where it might be, please call the school office with that information. If anyone accidentally picked it up, please return it to the school office. Thank you for your help with this matter.

The Cubs have the best record in baseball and are in first place. Ok, I’ll be fair and balanced. Go Sox.
Yesterday, Wednesday, June 4, we sent home to you the following items:
2008-2009 Calendar
2008-2009 Supply List
Uniform order forms for Bessies
If you did not receive one or more of these, please check your child’s book bag. These items will also be posted on our website http://www.christoursaviorcatholicschool.com soon.

Today you are receiving:
Your child’s final report card
Your child’s Terra Nova test scores from this year along with a letter about the scores for our entire school.

Important Financial Notes:
Page 21 of the Parent Handbook states “all final late payments, those made after May 15, must be made in cash, money order, or certified check. The final report card or school records will be withheld until the total balance is paid.” For this year only, as a courtesy, we will extend that date to Friday, May 16. “All bills and fees including fundraising obligations not paid my May 16 will be considered late. A late fee of 10% will be assessed between May 16 and June 1 for any unpaid balance. After June 1, a 20% late fee will be assessed on any unpaid balance. The final report card and school records will be withheld until the total balance is paid. No money will be collected on the last day of school.”

On the occasion of Joseph Addison’s 336th birthday today:

I have somewhere met with the epitaph on a charitable man which has pleased me very much. I cannot recollect the words, but here is the sense of it:

what I possessed is left to others;
what I gave away remains with me.''

Dear Parents/Guardians/Students:

The Cubs and Sox are both at 5-3 as of the writing of this newsletter. I’ll look at this with a positive attitude as it could be a promise for a bright future in October.

Re-registration is going on now for current families. The re-registration fee is $100 per family until April 4. As of April 7, the registration fee will be $100 per child. Also, at that time, registration will be opened to new families. Please remember that the preschool is open to three and four year olds at the east campus only. Please be sure to submit your forms and registration fee soon.

The April tuition is due by April 15. Thank you.

The Illinois Transportation Reimbursement sign up sheet is now located in the school office. The deadline for filling out this form is Friday, May 30, 2007.

Please know that the hours for next Wednesday’s upcoming Open House on April 16 have changed. The new hours are as such: 9:00 – 11:00 A.M and 6:00 – 7:30 P.M. If you know of any families looking for a quality education, please refer them to us. Personal testimonials are the best recruitment tool for boosting enrollment.

This Tuesday, April 15 is the March Dress Down Incentive Day. This program is for all children who qualify. To qualify, a student must not receive more than three of any single or combination of the following infractions for the month: out-of-uniform notices or missing assignment notices. Students who are tardy no more than three times qualify. A detention will also render the student ineligible. Therefore, students who receive three demerits do not qualify since three demerits earn them a detention. Our goal is to have as many children dress down as possible. If you have any questions, call the office or ask your child’s teacher.

A Board of Specified Jurisdiction meeting will be held at the east campus on Wednesday, April 16 at 7:00 P.M. in the Holy Family Room. All are invited to attend.

4th and 5th Grade Girls Only:
A half-sheet flyer went home Monday announcing the date change for the Girl Scouts April monthly meeting to Friday, April 11 from 6:30-8:30 P.M. in the AV Room. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Randolph at (708) 764-0343 or Mrs. Rozelle at (708)678-1401.

The Positive Opportunity Program (P.O.P.) is successfully moving along with the fourth quarter’s theme being “Citizenship.” Students are recognized for exhibiting Christian behavior towards one another, teachers, and visitors in the buildings. The children do things without being asked because they realize the value in living Jesus’ call to love one another. The P.O.P. students of the month of February are as follows: primary—Stephen Okuwobi; intermediate—Eriq Johnson; and junior high—Marquis Hayes. We display all the children’s certificates on the P.O.P. bulletin boards.

Please know that I have decided to move on in my professional career and will not return for the 2008-2009 school year.  I will continue as principal for the remainder of this school year. The administrative team will consist of Ms. Rogers, who will be the principal of both the east and west campuses, and a full-time assistant principal to be named at a later date. It was an honor to serve the children, faculty, staff, and the parents of Christ Our Savior Catholic School.
